Champéry, Switzerland
The Skiing:

Les Portes du Soleil is the most underrated ski resort in the Alps - and that's a good thing!

With over 220 lifts to choose from, you'll find that even during the busiest holiday season it is easy to avoid the queues and the rush.

You won’t find Champéry in many ski guidebooks. The ski fraternity’s best kept secret, it is "base camp" to Les Portes du Soleil, widely acknowledged as the biggest, best and most extensive ski area in the world. There are slopes to suit beginners, intermediates and expert skiers alike and untracked powder can still be found one week after a fall. Why do you think we keep coming back?

Whenever we are asked "Why Champéry?" it is inevitably from someone who hasn’t skied in this surprising resort before. The best way to answer this question is to spend a day exploring the different valleys, different lift systems, and different countries to be found throughout the Portes du Soleil, and we’ll let your smile do the talking.

The Lunch:

After a morning of ripping up the slopes it's time to kick back and enjoy a lunch in the sun with a hard earned meal at Les Rhodos with an accompanying Fischer Beer.

Devotees of the "chanterelle a la crème maison" have referred to this meal as "sex on a plate", but we'll let you decided for yourself.

No matter what your ability you will be overwhelmed by the sheer number and variety of pistes that Champéry and Les Portes du Soleil have to offer.

The Facts:

  • 220 lifts

  • 2 countries

  • 12 linked resorts

  • 700kms of piste

  • bigger is better
